Puerto Rico Ancestry. Do you have a research question?

Hello Family and all those interested in Puerto Rico Ancestry. Before I begin any research topic I start with a question. Who do I want to research today, or what do I want to research today? This thought process helps me stay focused on my research. Today or should I say this past week I wanted to focus on publicly available documents of my paternal Resto Y Mijon Family.

I’ll begin in Dulce Nombre de Jesus, in english, Sweet Name of Jesus, Caguas, Puerto Rico because that is where my father, Raul Resto Y Mijon, was baptized and where he was living before coming to New York 1951.

  • Raul Resto Y Mijon
  • Baptism: 1 April 1934, Dulce Nombre de Jesus, Caguas, Puerto Rico, USA
  • Priest: A. Jose Kalb C.SSR.
  • Birth: 10 September 1933.
  • Father: Etanislao Resto,
  • Mother: Rafaela Mijon,
  • Paternal Grandfather: Eloy Resto
  • Paternal Grandmother: Carmen Lopez.
  • Maternal Grandfather: Guadalupe Mijon
  • Maternal Grandmother: Juana Rivera
  • Godfather: Jose Marin Santiago
  • Godmother: Juana Marcano

My research question this week: Did my paternal grandparents, Etanislao Resto and Rafaela Mijon, baptized all their 14 children in Catedral Dulce Nombre de Jesus, Caguas, Puerto Rico? I’ll go in order of the baptisms. Links are attached to their names. So feel free to click on them. You’ll need a free account on Family Search.org

1 – Candido Resto Y Mijon – Birth: 12 May 1914, Caguas, Puerto Rico. Baptism: Unfortunately I haven’t found his baptism yet. I’ve looked many ways and on many sites, page by page in all the surrounding churches. I hope to find his baptism one day.

***Oh and by the way my grandparents were married in the Caguas Civil Court, 13 September 1915.***

While researching on Family Search I found a Dulce Nombre de Jesus Index, I – Z, years 1900 – 1926. The index made my search much easier especially when I found the index for Resto Y Mijon Baptisms. Full disclosure some of the indexed books were incorrectly transcribed but I was in the right vicinity.

Family research isn’t easy. Researching takes time and patience but in the end it’s worth it. I’ve learned more about the lives of my ancestors. Where they lived, where they went to church, and who some of their closest friends were. I can’t wait to learn more.

Thanks for joining me on my Puerto Rico Ancestry journey.

Hasta la Vista, Until Next Time,

Lilly Resto Gunderman
